Overview
Cal Performances' new First Stage For Families Series is the ideal introduction to the magical world of music, dance, and theater! A gateway to the Family Fare performances featured on our main stages, First Stage For Families for Families features lively one-hour events in Wheeler Auditorium, offering young people and their grownups an opportunity to experience a diverse range of artistry in an intimate space. Sample something new, meet the artists, and join other budding performing arts enthusiasts for three Sunday gatherings on the 2011/12 Season.
Unmatched in artistry, grace, and refinement of movement, the phenomenal Cashore Marionettes have redefined the art of puppetry with joyous performances for audiences in Europe, the Far East, and across North America. Simple Gifts—a "brilliant production that carries the audience through a range of feelings...this show is highly recommended even for adults who don't happen to have kids" (Calgary Herald)—comprises a series of poignant scenes from everyday life set to music by such composers as Vivaldi, Strauss, Beethoven, and Copland. Through a combination of virtuoso manipulation, beautiful music, and theatrical illusion, Simple Gifts provides an entertaining and poetic vision of what it is to be human.
Please note: All children, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter the theater.
