Overview
Universally acclaimed as an improviser of unsurpassed genius, pianist extraordinaire Keith Jarrett returns to Cal Performances to perform one of his legendary improvised solo piano concerts. One of the most creative and unique musicians of our time, Jarrett has helped redefined the role of piano in contemporary music with his landmark solo piano recordings, and his improvisations evoke a broad spectrum of musical languages, from classical to jazz, ethnic, gospel, folk, blues, and beyond. The result is spontaneous music that is both deeply personal, yet universal. The concert celebrates the release of his newest solo piano CD Rio, recorded live in concert in April 2011, and considered by Jarrett to be his best solo piano recording since The Köln Concert.
Please note that there will be no late seating until after intermission for this performance, so please plan to be in your seat prior to the 8 pm start.
